Pacalaca Farm goes back to school

Pacalaca Farm owners John and Cailin recently went back to school, and completed the Alpaca Ontario fibre classer course, the second level of education in evaluating alpaca fibre.

It was a great experience to work with other alpaca farmers and THE Canadian expert in alpaca fibre, Cathy Merkley from Saskatchewan. It was an intense four days, but it renewed our belief in alpacas and their gorgeous fibre.

At Pacalaca Farm we believe that everyone deserves alpaca socks, which is why we make it our mission to make Canadian-made alpaca socks as available as possible.

See us at event and farmers' markets in the London, Ontario area, but you can also buy everything we have available here on our website.

We had some great discussions with other alpaca farmers from across the province while taking the classer course. We learned about nutrition programs and breeding issues and how other farms keep their alpacas healthy and happy. Thanks to Little Foot Alpacas at Spencerville, Ontario, who hosted their course in their excellent new Air BnB.

We also learned about - and joined - a cool new initiative, the Alpaca Fibre Shed, a co-operative of alpaca farms working together to develop original, Canadian-made alpaca products. More on the Alpaca Fibre Shed in a future post!

Watch for more website posts for a look behind the socks where we'll explain some of the science behind alpaca fibre and why we think it's so great.
